A closed moderated Facebook group would be good and as I'm a regular Facebook user I'd be happy to volunteer a little bit of time to help with moderating, admin, member requests, etc. if required.

I'm a member of a few Facebook groups including a support group that organises a lot of activities via Facebook. Many people join just for access to that group. Join with a thowaway email address, set your privacy settings to "maximum paranoia", don't enter any personal details and turn off all notifications. Then interacting with Facebook could be limited to reading group posts. You may have to convince group admins you're not a spammer but usually they just ask for a short "describe your interest in this group" type message to show you know a bit about what you are asking to join!

There's loads of Facebook groups that members of this forum will be interested in, for example I'm a member of groups about vintage computers, fans of the BBC micro and vintage keyboards as well as groups for my local area, my alma mater and my old schools.
