Have a look at the Rev Thomas Scarborough's simple circuit in the September 2005 issue. It looks nice and easy: even I couldn't get that wrong!

Yes there is a very simple sw radio kit you can get with very little parts, I've built it ages ago

What Frequency bands are you looking for? anyhow have you access to a Maplin catalouge? if so then I give you the part/kit code. ok? the kit is very is to put together you dont even have to solder it
!! just use the on board spring terminals to connect wires to the various components
ok?
