This site has been causing some amusement at work. Well worth reading right through.

Dr. Ashen presents "How to build a computer for almost no money at all!"

" Dr. Ashen should be considered dangerous, and should not be approached by members of the public."

I think that says it all....

An attempt at humour - but not as we know it :-)
And potentially dangerous to those who dont realise it's humour - all 3 mains wires to the same bit of metal? Huh! As bad as the tale I heard of electronic buffs in an engineering company tell newcomers to plug something into the mains, offering them wires connected to croc clips (legend reported by my brother from his days in the industry :-)

At leaast he was using solder.

Some of the stuff we used in the lab at Siemens had us so jumpy to start with, we were scared to touch anything anyway.

Sometimes we'd play little jokes on each other. And one of them was a low value high wattage resistor plugged into the bench. A few times of somebody turning them on like that and we'd be nervous wrecks.

One of the circuit breakers we designed was rated for 5,000 amps, so you can see how that would make you a bit shakey.
