Can anyone explain how these special resistors function and where to obtain spec sheets for them?

Hello, I had never heard of these devices before your post so I had a look on Google 'kelvin sense resistor' and found the following -
http://www.innovatia.com/Design_Center/Making%20Sense%20of%20Sense%20Resistors%2 01.htm
http://homepages.which.net/~paul.hills/SpeedControl/SenseResistors.html
Also try 'kelvin sensing' and 'kelvin sense'
I could not find any datasheets, but Linear Technology LT1087 voltage regulator has them internally and it may help to look at that datasheet.
A company called Dale is one manufacturer, but now appears to to be part of Vishay - search for SPR-1005 (Dale Kelvin Sense Resistor)
Regards,
Darren

Hi again,
Try this datasheet -
http://www.vishay.com/docs/30227/spapucur.pdf
its says you have to contact ww2bresistors@vishay.com for technical details though.

Darren

Four terminal device: two terminals carry the operating current and the other two are used to measure the voltage across the device.
