The latest update for the March 2006 issue has now been completed. Source code for the latest project (Telescope GPS Interface) is also in our Downloads area.

The new update includes Editor Mike Kenward's tribute to the late F E Bennett, the founding Editor of Practical Electronics and Everyday Electronics magazines, who passed away recently after an illness bravely borne.

Thanks, Alan. Wasn't it Fred who got you going as an electronics journo? And the world was never the same again. Thomas.

It was actually Ingenuity Unlimited, two small articles in 1975/ 1976 (£5 and £10), then I submitted my own first constructional in 1976 and earned £160! I only ever managed to speak to Fred once, and yes, I owe him everything.

Fred also indirectly influenced me to give up a career in professional film making and take up electronics instead. I told him so when PE held its 25th Anniversary party to which I also invited him, 1989 while I was editing PE :-)

Fred also published my first design - an Answering Machine (Callercord), PE June 1972 (not a PIC in sight - far too early).
