Does anyone know of a supplier of dark green equipment wire as used on Christmas lights? All the usual suppliers only seem to do light green. I can understand why as dark green could be mistaken for black but light green is no good for restoring vintage Christmas lights!!

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,

Would contacting a company which makes Christmas lights help maybe? Someone like Ring lighting?

Thank you for this suggestion. It seems that all Christmas lighting these days is made in the Far East so I don't think I will be able to get just the wire from any of the manufacturers. I have managed to find some but it's automotive cable and almost certainly not rated at mains voltage although the insulation looks quite thick. I might go with it though.

Thanks,
Richard

Hello Richard,

Go to the top - ring BICC and/or other manufacturers!

Farnell do a wide range of green wire.
Someone with a recent catalogue, or perhaps calling them, might find out what shade of green is available.

Thanks - I'll give them a try. I haven't used them for years, do you know if they still sell direct to the public?

Not sure. Last time I used them I was a trade buyer.

Farnell will sell to anyone... there may well be a minimum order value though.

Hi
just to pick up on your comment about the automotive wire. Just because it is used in a 12V vehicle doesn't mean it has a low voltage rating as far as insulation resistance is concerned. Try it with a Megger.

cheers
gaj
