Hi everyone

Can someone please tell me the difference between a 'surge' resistor and an ordinary resistor? If there is one.

Thanks

I believe it's a resistor that's designed to tolerate pulses of high voltage, even though the instantaneous power during the pulse greatly exceeds DC rated power of the resistor.

For example, a 0.5Watt 100ohm resistor that can tolerate short 1kV pulses.

Can they be used in place of ordinary resistors?

Hi,

The ones I saw on the web earlier were identical to ordinary resistors in low voltage applications.
