Hi,
is there anyone out there who has old Practical Electronics magazines? I was looking through some old boxes recently and found a Guitar Overdrive Unit that I build from an artical in August 1976 PE. It's not working and I would like to try and fix it but I need the circuit diagram and if possible the whole article.
Any help would be much appreciated

I probably have it but in my "filing" system, I will look tonight. I think I've read here that the current copyright owners don't mind us scanning bits of old magazines for fellow chat zone users.

Sorry, believe it or not I have every issue from 1976 except August. I thought you'd sent me on a wild goose chase - I happened to open the 1976 binder at the September issue, so flipped one issue back and didn't find an overdrive unit project in the contents. It took a while to realise I was looking at the July issue.

I notice there are at least 2 copies on eBay at the moment, although neither of them are available singly; they're in bundles with other issues.

Hey Mark,
thanks for the kindness, pity you don't have the copy but that's my luck :-)
quorndog: yes I saw a bundle but the seller wanted £60 for them, finally got £50. I wasn't willing to pat that much for just the one magazine I wanted. I haven't seen any single copies of August 1976 bit I'll keep looking.
Thanks anyway for the replies

If the article was after the Everyday Electronics merged with Practical Electronics I may have a copy buried deep in the loft. Thinking about it I suspect that they were still separate magazines then, in which case I'd only have EE.

Its scary that I was only a schoolboy then!

EE didn't merge with PE till the November 1992 issue (as I wrote in my 50th Anniversary feature recently) ;-)

Just spotted your message and pulled that issue off the shelf.

Alan - would it be OK for me to copy this and pass it on to Phillip, as EE owns the copyright to PE I believe?

Sure - we don't mind old material being exchanged this way. (As you rightly say, copyright belongs to Wimborne Publishing Ltd. - same is true of ETI etc. actually.)

That's a great shame as I'd love a DVD filled with ETI scans. My wardrobe full of old copies could finally go to someone who would have time to use and care for them properly.

I understood (not 100% sure) that no ETI back issues changed hands so unfortunately we could not provide them to readers.

The only web site I know about is a rump of ETI's old 1999 site mirrored on http://www.aaelectron.co.uk/eti/index.html by ETI's Helen Armstrong. Helen also edited Electronics Monthly.

You could always scan your issues to PDF yourself as many scanners offer that, but I guess it's a very onerous job and you do end up wondering whether it's a rewarding use of valuable time. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be...

Hey Magman, that would be great if you could get me a copy (PDF?) of the article.

Thanks to all

Hi PhilipJ

If you PM me your email address, I should be able to sort out a PDF in the next day or so.

Regards
