Seems FTDI are being unpleasant again, random characters sent if they think your chips are fake.

Nasty.

Whilst I (again) sympathise with FTDI, I worry this could actually cause dangerous results - although I guess anything critical (some physical device under control) would use CRC checks.

FTDI should flag the error, and warn the user.
