I have just finished a project using a 16F866. The text book I have says it is ok to run the oscillator up to 8 Mhz in XT mode. This is what I have used with an 8Mhz Xtal and two 33pF Capacitors it works fine ! I have just read another article which states that HS mode should be used above 4 Mhz. Could anyone tell which is right? Which is best? and if the capacitance would nedd to be changed? Thank you. Dave

Yes, The ball-park figure is HS (High Speed) above 4MHz. Regards

Edit: Opps missed the cap bit. I use 22pf for all. Even for 80MHz (overclocking) clock speed.
